It doesn't seem like there is a good way of consoling her with words. Abner decided ruefully. How did that old saying go? Actions speak louder than words? He grabbed her hand. "Come with me." He motioned that the zombie watchdogs were not to follow them. He turned back to Cassandra. "I promise you, you will enjoy this."

"Torture, I love torture." Cassandra muttered to herself. She had no choice but to follow him as he pulled her along. She looked back at the zombies and stuck her tongue out. To her horror and shock, one of them looked straight at her and barred his teeth. He widened his eyes, so they were unnaturally large, and the whites of them were huge.
Cassandra walked so fast that she stepped on Abner's heels in her hurry. She gripped his hand tightly.
Oh man. I never want to see those guys again.

Abner hurried along with Cassandra. Is this a good idea? He wondered as she stepped on his heels in her hurry. Probably not. He answered his own question and smirked to himself.
They ended up in a small room in the Regal Wing of the ship. Abner sat down on a couch and gestured for Cassandra to do the same. She preferred to stand thank you very much. "All right Cassandra, I need you to think very hard about the person you most want to see and then talk into this device." He handed her something looking very much like an old-fashioned cell phone. "I'll warn you that it does read your mind, but you really won't mind once you've tried it."
Cassandra closed her eyes and then opened the cell.

Matty. Matthew Fletcher. Cassandra thought. Slowly, she opened her eyes and spoke into the device.
"Hello?"
"Are you familiar with these sort of things happening in the modern world? No reason. Just asking."
A girl's voice came through the cell-phone, but Cassandra couldn't care less. Matty was standing in front of her.
She jumped to her feet and turned to Abner.
"Is he real?!" she said abruptly.
"He's just a hologram."
"Oh." she turned back towards Matty's hologram. She raised the device back up to her mouth. "Matty, it's me. Cassandra."

"Matty!" Cassandra exclaimed. Excitement welled up inside of her, and she hugged him tightly. "Matty, I'm fine." Cassandra said with a ecstatic smile. "I- I'm using a holographic device, so I guess I'm not really here, but... how are you? Are you all right?" she gently touched his face. "It's as though you're here, and you aren't... at the same time." she murmured, her smile fading slightly.

Iana
She stepped lightly to the regal chair which Toren always lingered upon. She gently stroked the delicate carvings on the elegant handle, before gripping it tightly.
"And so... the 'mighty' ruler sits upon his throne!" she spat. Her usually calm, beautiful face was agonized.
"Iana, I see not what accusations you place against this up-coming match between me and this Cassandra girl. What is there to object to?"
"It is not wise!" Iana exclaimed bitterly. "Can you not see it?! How muddled has your brain become? If we accept this... girl, as the finishing declaration to the blasted peace treaty, we have completely left behind all hope of conquering OneNation. We have already discussed this many times, brother."
"But what else is there to do?" Toren snapped harshly. "To decline would be a obvious sign of coming war!"
"Accept her! Accept her, and then pretend that there shall be no war. Later, some mere days after her coming here, even, you can march stealthily upon OneNation, and attack it with the element of surprise."
"And what of Cassandra?"
"I don't care." Iana said with a heartless shrug. "Marry her, if you want. I don't think just any girl would be willing to leave her home and marry a complete stranger unless she was a calm and obedient girl. If that's what you want, anyway..."

Abner smiled slightly as Cassandra looked over at him, waited a millisecond, and then turned back to the holographic image of the man she thought she loved. She really has quite a lot of spirit. Toren and Iona will not be pleased.
"Cassandra, you have 5 minutes before this device is too low on battery to transmit anymore." said quietly, wishing this 'Matty' would hear him while desperately hoping he couldn't.

"Well isn't this just fine." Cassandra said angrily. She threw the device at him which hit him in the head. "Oh, sorry." she said in a light mocking tone. "Sorry to be the source of any pain for you."
She stormed out of the room, leaving Abner to contemplate her interesting attitude. She had a lot of spirit and a broken heart. Toren would not be pleased at all... And she would be a bomb. The only question would be when will she blow up?

Zack was sitting under the wall outside the city, glooming over his exclusion by his friends. He looked up at the sky and breathed in a long breath of the fresh air. Then it began to rain, and the happiness he felt from the outside air left immediately. He grumbled and stretched from his comfortable position and walked over to his sheltered area right next to the wall. He leaned against a barrel and stuck a piece of straw in his mouth and looked at the swaying tree right outside the shelter. He watched the people going back and forth in the street and saw the kids playing in the rain, and the umbrellas coming out. Then one face caught his eye, a beautiful girl, the only one in the street without an umbrella. He called out to her trying to get her to come over to his shelter and to get out of the rain, but it started to pour and his voice was carried away.

Lea heard a shout just before it started to pour. Looking around, she saw a young man lounging under a wall and looking at her. Then it really was pouring, and she forgot in the wonder of the rain. She forgot everyone around her and just started dancing in the rain. In Australia, in the area she lived in, there weren't many downpours. When they did come, all the I.S's reveled in it. When she opened her eyes again, she was right in front of the guy who she thought had yelled to her before. "Hello mate! Name's Lea, pardon the accent. Who're you?"

Zack was taken back at the accent at first, because he had never heard an accent like it before. "Nice to meet you, Lea. I'm Zack, but my friends call me Zacky. Where do you come from?" He asked as he studied her. Everything about her was beautiful. From her curly hair to her dress radiated beauty and joy, but he didn't know the color of her eyes, for he could never bring himself to look. He just imagined how they looked, just like he always did for people, and he imagined blue eyes. Not bright, and not dull, just blue. Until he talks with her though, he won't know what they hide, whether it's kindness or anger, love or hate, peace or distress. But until then, they will be the most beautiful blue he can think of.

"I'm from Australia mate! Y'know, the place they send the crazier scientists, criminals, and I.S's? I was deemed too normal to live there, and was brought here. I don't really know my way around here yet, do you?" Lea replied in a breath, taking another huge one when she was done. Smiling, she waited for a reply.

Abner sighed and turned to Cassandra. "I'm sorry, I'm going to have to shut this down now. Are you alright?" He asked, already knowing the answer.

"Will I be alright?" Cassandra blinked slowly. She sighed, closing her eyes and trying to reply civilly. He had been very nice to her. "I think I have to be, hmm?"

"Right. Stupid question again." Abner muttered to himself. Of course she's not alright you ninny! She's either very angry or very sad, or very both.
"Cassandra? Do you want to go lie down, watch something to get your mind off it, or vent your anger on a punching bag?"

"All of those sound so cliche." she commented unhelpfully. She didn't want to be separated from Abner, because separation from Abner meant spending time with the guards. "We could punch together, I guess." she pushed her bangs behind her ear, but they immediately rebelled and flopped back in front of her eyes.

"I... I know my way around very well. Would you like me to show you around?" Zack asked putting on the best smile he could, then thinking how awful it must look, he quickly hid it. Then he thought of another question, "What's it like in Australia?"

Abner attempted to keep a straight face at her struggles with her bangs, but he couldn't prevent the twinkle in his eye at her frustration. Turning to the door he began, "If you need it, I think there are some headbands and bobby pins in the pink drawer in the bathroom. I don't really think pink is your color though, if you don't mind me mentioning."
When he got to the door, he looked back at her. "Hey, y'coming?"

"Austrailia's a great place! At least, if you don't mind the crazy hybrids, murderers and psychopaths there. Did you know they moved the Tahiti project there about 20 years ago?" Lea paused a moment. "And yes, I would like some help getting around here... at least once the rain stops."

Cassandra saw his muffled delight through the twinkle in his eye, and she suddenly felt anxious. Did this guy believe she wasn't strong? She had cried in front of him...
Abner walked to the door and turned back to her, thankfully unable to see her mental struggle. "Hey, you coming?" he asked her. Quickly, she tried to crush her insecurity before it matured into something Abner would detect.
"Yeah, I'm coming." she walked past him and out the door. She took a deep breath, gathered her curly hair to the side, and tried to forget about Matty. Thinking about him here would only make her slip up and tell Abner something that later she would have wished she hadn't. "And yes, pink is not my favorite color. How did you guess." her voice was dripping with apathy.

She seems angrier right now... Was it something I said? Shaking himself mentally, he returned to the conversation at hand. While ignoring the sarcasm, he replied, "Well, you remind me of one of those old-time super-heroines, and I can't imagine the Black Widow wearing pink in any form." Finally looking up, he noticed Cassandra ahead of him and heading the wrong direction. "Hey, Cassandra? The Gym is this direction."

Zack normally hears a lot of gossip around him, but he had never heard of the 'Tahiti project'. "What's this Tahiti project? I've never heard of it." He couldn't wait to show Lea around his part of the city, starting of course with his wall, but he was also curious about all that she had to tell. This was also his first conversation with a girl, who was also from Australia. He also thought that it would be best to have conversation while they were waiting for it to stop raining.

"That direction, you say?" Cassandra mumbled, quickly looking up, and suddenly feeling embarrassed. "Oh." she flipped her hair and stuck her small hands into her jean pockets. "I knew that." she scoffed. She started walking in the opposite direction, before she realized she actually didn't know where the stupid gym was. "You know what? Why don't you guide us there? Those zombies are very particular about me walking wherever I choose." she nodded with a serious look on her face. "Yeah, you'll have to escort me. Those darn zombies..."

"Yes, well, those zombies answer to Mr. Elcarnin, who answers to my brother, who answers to my sister and why don't we just start walking 'cause this is getting random." Abner shut himself up for a moment and began walking. "This way my lady." After a moment he paused. "Do you want to get your hair out of the way?"

"This way, my lady." Abner said gently. Cassandra froze. Matty had called her "his lady" at the ball where everything had gone wrong. But that was before everything had gone wrong. She was happy then, in that moment, in that quick breath of love mingled with freedom; with Matty. Anger flashed in her brilliant blue eyes, and she looked defiantly at Abner.
"Listen." she said coldly. "I'm not your lady, so don't even think of calling me that, or anything closely related."
This dude seems enraptured with me. Did he miss the whole thing about Matty and me? Did he just conveniently forget that? How stupid, to fall in love with someone so quickly. She paused, feeling an unusual pang of empathy. Though... I suppose that's unfair. I sort of did with Matty.
"What I mean is... well, I meant...er..." she rolled her eyes. "Oh I hate this. Why is being nice so hard?" she ran her fingers through her long fiery hair. "OK. Please don't call me affectionate names. Is that all right?"
Oh my word. I'm being more than civil, I'm being pathetically nice. NICE. ... it's not so bad, actually.
"Don't expect this sort of forgiving behavior from me." Cassandra delicately raised a perfect eyebrow, and a small smile played at her red lips. "It's quite rare."

Cassandra seemed to freeze. Anger flashed in her eyes as she glared at him.
"Listen." she said, her voice as cold as ice. "I'm not your lady, so don't even think of calling me that, or anything closely related."
Abner stood there shocked as she spoke, startled at the vehemence in her voice, before remembering that she had just been forcefully separated from her boyfriend. Mentally, he face-palmed.
"What I mean is... well, I meant...er..." she rolled her eyes. "Oh I hate this. Why is being nice so hard?" she ran her fingers through her hair with frustration. "OK. Please don't call me affectionate names. Is that all right?"
Ah. Yes, that's definitely it. Or at least part of it. I wonder where the mood swings are coming from?
"Don't expect this sort of forgiving behavior from me." Cassandra raised a well formed eyebrow, while the chance of a smile played at her red lips. "It's quite rare."
"Of course. I'm sorry, that was insensitive of me." Abner replied, a repentant look on his face. "Also, to answer an earlier question, 'why is being nice so hard,' I believe it's because people as a whole don't practice enough." He smiled sadly. "You're not the only one who struggles with that. If you saw me around my brother..." He shook his head to clear it. "Anyway, back to this question again, do you want to fix your hair?"

Cassandra laughed, which was something she rarely did.
"You're still on that...?" she sighed, with a hidden laugh lurking in her exhale. "I- I guess I could fix it. I don't normally do stuff with my hair, though."
