Lita (LEE-tuh) is a 16 year-old Subterrean girl. Her birthdate is July 21, 2301. Her face is a lovely heart shape (meaning that she has a widow’s peak and pointed chin). Her face has a healthful, rosy glow. Her emerald eyes are large, sparkling, and intelligent. She allows her wavy, red-brown hair to grow long. Normally worn up, she has not had it down in public since her parents died. She is 5’ 8. Her figure is slender and feminine. Since she works for Royales, she can afford to take showers and stay clean. Another benefit of this is that she is given a certain amount of money every once in a while to buy clothes (she has to be a decently dressed nanny after all). Her clothes of choice when being a nanny are; a green dress that comes to her knees and brown leggings. When she is not working, she wears a t-shirt (brown, green, or purple), jeans, sneakers, and a sweater. She has a quiet, (normally) naturally happy voice. If she were in a choir, she would be ‘first soprano’ because she can reach ridiculously high notes.
Lita tries to be friendly, but her shy manners make many think that she is proud. She reads anything she can get her hands on. And since the only book she owns is her Bible, she reads it daily. She sings the Psalms aloud when she is alone and to herself when ignored in a group. Always with a song on her lips, she can and will fight if need be. However, she will not start a fight on her own (At least not directly.) She is thankful for being able to eat every day and to have a roof over her head. She is at her most outgoing around the O’Shea children. She is so exuberant around them that you wouldn’t recognize her!
Now that her protector/brother Jerek is dead, Lita is being exposed more fully to the true harshness of normal Subterrean life. She has to do more herself and feel alone. Also, she spends less time working for the O’Shea family since the children are older and need a “nanny” less. All this makes her suddenly less secure. She is gradually becoming more independent and bold in her speech. A few adjectives that describe Lita’s personality at the beginning of this time after her brother's death are; insecure, quiet, sorrowful, child-loving, and hungry for love.
At thirteen, her parents died in a factory accident and she was left in Jerek’s care. For a year they did odd jobs here and there, looking out for each other and moving from place to place. At one point Lita worked for a hair-dresser and learned how to put her hair up. The second year they lived with their eccentric uncle who ate hardly anything and lived in a shack, but had a considerable collection of classic books. They had nearly a year of learning before their Uncle was sent to the Asylum for the Insane.
That last year, she had been teaching some Subterrean 10 year-olds when a Royale family came by in their vehicle. Mrs. O’Shea had been looking for someone to care for her children and decided that Lita was the girl she needed. She hired Lita at once. She is paid in food, board, and clothing. Her husband also hired Jerek for handyman work. In an accident on the road a week ago, Jerek was killed.
If Lita was looking for a boy, she would want someone that truly loved her; someone that would protect and defend her. She is not asking for someone to make all her troubles go away; she is asking for someone to bear the load of them with her.
