Personality: Gilbert Swander is an active farmer boy. He grew up as a farmer and enjoys is job. Working with his father in the fields and tending to the gardens. They grow the food and 90% of their products go to OneNa and the remaining 10% is for them. Despite the fact that they provide the government with food the Swanders have never been much into politics.
Gilbert is an optimistic young man. He’s more responsible than his subterrian friend, Kyle Wrangles. The farm work doesn’t, however, keep him from getting free time for fishing and taking Jerusalem on walks. He wakes up early in the morning and begins her work. Finishing the work early so he can hang out with Kyle and enjoy the beautiful outdoors.
Gilbert can talk easily with people he knows. But talking with strangers most often ends up awkward. Probably because he hardly meets people. Not that he cares much about needing too. Kyle and Jerusalem have always been enough. He does take trips to Subterria so that he can take the crops there until they get moved to Royalia. But he hardly has to converse with the people there.
Appearance: Gilbert has bright and energetic brown eyes. He has brown hair like his father. Gilbert idyllic expression is a lopsided grin. When confused it more of a lopsided frown. He got these lopsided features from his father but his eyes he got from his mother.
Gilbert commonly wears brown. There’s no occasion for special outfits and brown is the only color that stays brown through all the years. Plus, it’s cheaper. He wears either his brown or his faded green T-shirt underneath his jacket. His jacket is a was-white-but-is-now-more-of-a-dirty-cream color with brown cuffs. Completing his outfit is his trusty satchel he usually keeps with him. It contains certain supplies he thinks he might, at some point, need. (Mainly food and a small amount of bandaging supplies for cuts or anything.)
To passersby he may not instigate conversation but he does smile politely so that he doesn’t look unfriendly. To Kyle and Jerusalem he wears his grin and has a happy demeanor that shows by his facial features. He occasionally will start fiddling with the straps to his satchel, a nervous habit of his. When he is working on the crops his eyes are aglow from the exercise as well as the enjoyment in his work. All in all he’s usually quite happy and content in the world and he shows.

He helped set up plastic flags that scared away the birds from the crop and helped his father, Joshua Chance Swander, water the crops during planting season.
They were one happy little family for a while until, when Gilbert was seventeen, Mrs. Swander became pregnant and soon afterwards became very sick. Gilbert took care of the large garden while Joshua Swander cared for Mrs. Swander. (It was called a garden, but really it was more of an orchard.) In the end Mrs. Swander died in child birth but gave birth to Gilbert’s premature sister. The little girl lived for only one hour.
Gilbert and his father took care of the farm together for the next four years. Eventually, Joshua Swander, after deciding that Gilbert was responsible enough to care for the farm, left to Subterria. Joshua Swander found himself a part-time job there and intended to stay for three months than return in time for harvest season with a bit of extra money. Joshua came down with an illness about a month in and died a month later in Subterria. Leaving Gilbert to care for the farm.
